COVID-19 Statement

Nothing is more important than people’s health and safety.
Little Falls Summer Musical takes very seriously the COVID-19 crisis. We are monitoring the Minnesota Department of Health’s updates on an ongoing basis, and we are committed to following all public health guidelines. That’s our solemn promise to everyone in our community and our extended theatre family. We will continue production ONLY in full compliance with Minnesota and local public health and safety guidelines.

By completing the audition process, you acknowledge that as a team we will be working to produce a musical theatre performance during an unprecedented time, and that our plans must adapt as necessary.

More information about how we're dealing with COVID-19 can be found in our FAQ on the topic here.

Godspell Will Be a Live Show
for an In-Person Audience

We are utilizing online technologies to allow remote auditions, but this project aims to produce a show before a live audience. Doing that will necessitate in-person rehearsals. See our COVID-19 strategy for details about how we'll do that safely and in full compliance with public health guidelines,

Please contact us if you wish to audition, but for any reason cannot complete the following steps. WE STILL WANT YOUR AUDITION EVEN IF THE VIDEO PROCESS ISN'T YOUR CUP OF TEA!

Video Audition Process (preferred)

Auditions will be accepted via video file upload between May 24 at 6:00 p.m. and May 31 at 12:59 p.m. Contact us if for any reason you can't do the following but you still wish to audition.
STEP 1: Complete your audition form on this page. Once you have submitted this form, we will email you with a link to an unlisted YouTube video, which comprises the dance combo instruction and demonstration for your audition.
STEP 2: Check your email for the link to the dance combo video. Watch the video and learn the combo.

STEP 3: Rehearse and record your three (3) separate video submissions (song cutting, monologue, and dance combo).
A phone, iPad, or computer video camera is sufficient. If you don’t have access to any kind of digital video camera, contact us to discuss alternatives.

STEP 4: Upload your recorded video files (MP4 preferred) to our secure Dropbox here:
https://www.dropbox.com/request/6IqINFlckXgc8p8lBeKi
STEP 5: Watch your email inbox for callback info.
Callbacks will occur early in June. Depending on the public health situation at that time, callbacks may occur in person, or they will be convened via Zoom. The directors will provide required selections from Godspell for called-back candidates only.

AUDITION VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
Auditions will include three separate video submissions:
  1. An approximately 32-bar cutting (excerpt) FROM A MUSICAL THEATRE SONG BUT NOT GODSPELL;
  2. A 30-second comedic monologue; and
  3. A dance combo.

CHOOSE A SONG FROM A MUSICAL and a MONOLOGUE that appropriately show off your talents and align with who you are as an actor. (Use the backing music of your choice for your song, perhaps a karaoke version that you can find on YouTube.) It may be a good idea to choose pieces that are similar to the style of the show or a specific character, but please don’t select a song from Godspell; the directors will provide required Godspell cuttings for those who are selected for callbacks. The monologue should show your ability to deliver rehearsed dialogue for comedic effect. This shouldn’t be ad-libbed or just a random joke. Pick a humorous piece of prose or a bit from your favorite comedy.

THE DANCE COMBO will be taught by our choreographer who is preparing a couple of pre-recorded videos that will be available soon. Please stay tuned for updates!

QUESTIONS please contact Co-Directors Lucas Burr or Michael Kalpakoff via Facebook or via the LFSM web page. While the directors cannot coach your submissions, they can offer suggestions for musical selections or monologues if you are having difficulty finding appropriate pieces.

The directors want to see what you can do as a performer, so choose something you enjoy and are proud of! Additionally, this show will be cast without regard to gender identity, so you are encouraged to audition for any role that you feel you would portray well.

Callback information will be released shortly after audition submissions have closed on the 31st.

CREATIVE AND TECHNICAL CREW will be recruited separately. Please indicate in your audition form if you would like to participate as a member of the creative or technical crew, and if so what specific crew roles most interest you. Stay tuned for more info about the crew recruitment process!

Godspell Character Breakdown

Jesus
Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.

John the Baptist/Judas
He has attributes of both Biblical figures: He is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. Usually played by someone handsome and masculine, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most "serious" and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must still possess a good sense of physical comedy.

Nick
Very high energy. Impish and playful. In the original, he played several musical instruments, including concertina, recorder and guitar.

Telly
Not the brightest in the bunch, he is a little slow on the uptake. But there is a great sweetness and innocence about him. Because he sings "All Good Gifts" he must be a very good singer.

George
The comedian, the class clown. The guy who can do a hundred voices and imitations.

Anna Maria
A bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group. She is the first of the group to commit to following Jesus in the song "Day by Day."

Lindsay
The confident one, the show-off. The first one to volunteer, sometimes she jumps in before she really understands what's going on.

Uzo
The shy one. Sometimes a little slow to get things, but when she does, she commits all the way. Has an “Earth mother” kind of warmth to her.

Morgan
Sassy and slightly cynical, the most urban of the group. Also the “sexy” one, but her sexiness contains a large element of put-on, in the manner of Mae West or Madonna (who in fact once played this role.)

Celisse
The female equivalent of the class clown. Goofy and a cut-up. In the 2012 Broadway revival, she played several instruments, including conga, ukulele and guitar.

Orchestra Breakdown

Guitars (2), Bass Guitar, Keyboard/Synth, Drums
The Godspell orchestra is basically a rock band. Musicians with experience playing in a rock band or in a musical pit are encouraged to contact us for more information.
